Initial assessments of flood damage in Davidson County are almost done, but there’s still much more work to be done before the disaster’s full extent can be known.
Search and rescue teams made up of fire and police officers examined 700 houses Wednesday, and continued those efforts Thursday. Public Works inspectors expect to finish a sweep through the entire county by the end of the day Thursday.
David Himes says that’s just the first step. He’s the Assistant Director of Metro Public Works.
“We will still have to go back and do detailed assessments on a number of those locations. For instance, bridge damage, structural damage, things of those natures.”
As a rough estimate, Mayor Karl Dean has said cleanup and repairs in Nashville will cost more than a billion dollars.
