The Nashville Public Library is hosting its first International Puppet Festival this weekend.
Nashville has a long history of puppet shows, going back to 1938 when famous puppeteer Tom Tichenor performed his first puppet show at the library.
Library puppeteer Brian Hall was inspired to create the festival after going to Europe and experiencing their different styles of puppetry.
“While I was in Germany, I visited Italy and I, I met the troupe that is here now, the San Carlino puppeteers, and I saw the Velo Theatre perform at the German festival, and they were just tremendous, and so all these wonderful troupes are just a very eclectic mix of things.”
Puppeteers from Germany, France, Italy, and China will be performing over the weekend.
The festival lasts from Friday to Sunday at the downtown library.
