The Metro Planning Commission on Thursday denied a re-zoning request by two developers hoping to build a six-story apartment building on Music Row. Not only did the commission deny those plans, the panel also put a 12 to 18 month moratorium on any zoning change request for the area.
Spokesman Craig Owensby says the waiting period will allow time for the development of a design plan for Music Row.
“The commission thought it would be best to step back and involve all the interested parties in a study that would help consider Music Row as an entire unit, as a neighborhood, rather than looking at it piecemeal, one application at a time,” Owensby says.
Several preservation groups have voiced on-going concern over new development in the area that often comes at the expense of historic buildings.
