If you’ve had storm damage or put in a shiny, new kitchen, that affects the value of your property, which affects your property taxes. The county regularly estimates the value of homes and businesses, but you have until Friday, June 16, at 4 p.m. to file an appeal.
Davidson County assessor Vivian Wilhoite explained that the appeals process allows property owners to present new information that the county may not know about and allows them to better understand how the county calculated their initial appraisal amount.
“It brings trust back into the process,” she said. “Who knows their property better than the property owner?”
Wilhoite added that most of the appeals they get are from people who think their property value — and therefore, their property taxes — should be lower.
You can file an appeal through the Davidson County Property Assessor’s website, or by calling them at 615-862-6059.
