Metro has opened a second drive-thru COVID-19 testing and vaccination center near Centennial Park. The center opened after complaints from the public of hours-long waits at the location in South Nashville.
Joseph Pleasant, spokesperson with the Office of Emergency Management, said wait times at the new location Tuesday were around 15-45 minutes.
Dr. Julie Gray, an Associate Dean at Meharry, says the site served more than 600 people on its first day, but is capable of more.
“We only had two tents open today just because we were a brand-new site and we did not know what the flow of traffic was like but we anticipate opening to three lanes of traffic as we increase the demands of testing,” said Gray.
Nearby, Williamson County has also expanded its testing capacity by moving locations. This all comes as Tennessee reaches record highs in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations per day — with more than 3,700 across the state as of Tuesday afternoon.
