The Nashville Symphony has a track record of 19 albums and 14 Grammy nominations. But to make its next recording happen, the NSO is having to scramble for fan support.
Their label, Franklin-based Naxos pays some of the production costs; the orchestra has to cover the rest, and that line item was trimmed from this year’s budget. After all, this is a time when everyone on the payroll is taking pay cuts.
Still, Conductor Giancarlo Guerrero doesn’t consider financial troubles a reason to give up on a new album.
“We are in the business of creating and commissioning and recording the great warhorses of tomorrow. And in that sense we’re giving Nashville, I think, ownership of this music.”
Ownership,and perhaps a producer’s credit. The NSO has turned to crowdfunding website Kickstarter as its Plan B. There doesn’t seem to be a Plan C. But with just 12 days to finish raising about $15-thousand dollars, there’s still a lot of ground to cover.
