Nashville teens gathered at the city’s central bus terminal Tuesday night to symbolically reclaim the site after Monday’s shooting. Four teenagers were injured in the high-profile incident.
“We are alive, and we are here, to change the mother who won’t let her child ride the bus anymore,” Cassidy Martin of Big Picture High School said. “This place is hers. This place is mine. And it is what we make of it.”
Police have named a suspected gunman. But officers haven’t been able to track down the 16-year-old. He goes to the same alternative school as Jerock Walker, who said he witnessed the shooting and that the violence was gang-related. He said it was important to return for the vigil.
“Because God spared another day for me to live,” Walker said. “And I want people to know that there is a community out here. We want to keep it safe.”
Metro Police have said they plan to maintain an increased presence at Music City Central for the time being.
