A neighborhood group opposed to a Habitat for Humanity development in North Nashville has filed an appeal after a judge dismissed its claims last month.
Park Preserve would be Nashville Area Habitat’s third neighborhood off Brick Church Pike and the largest in the country with 350 homes. The concerned neighbors complain that it concentrates too much low-income housing in one area. But the lawsuit and appeal remain on procedural grounds, that the Metro Planning Commission didn’t fully consider all sides before approving the development.
Attorney Alan Woods represents the neighbors and says they’re not just going away.
“They’re in this for the long haul and we expect a multi-year fight over this development.”
Habitat still plans to begin moving dirt on the Ewing Drive property this fall and start building homes next year. CEO Chris McCarthy says the $ 120,000 spent defending itself against the lawsuit could have built two Habitat homes.
