Japanese Automaker Nissan unveiled its new American headquarters in Franklin yesterday.
Corporate services director Rob Traynham says the facility is built to reflect the brand’s identity going forward.
“It’s a futuristic-looking building. It’s smart; it’s efficient; it takes the environment into consideration – our cars are going to do the same thing.”
Nissan announced plans to move its American headquarters to Tennessee from California more than two years ago.
About half the corporate staff followed the company to the state. Since then they’ve worked out of temporary offices in the AT&T building in downtown Nashville.
Different departments have been moving into the new headquarters all month. Officials say the transition will be complete August 18, on time and on budget.
About 1,500 people, including 300 contractors, will work at the new office.
Nissan employs some 5,500 workers at its plant in Smyrna, which began production 25 years ago this summer.
It also has about 1,200 workers at its engine plant in Decherd.
