North Nashville Wants BRT Guarantee

North Nashville residents say they won’t stand in the way of a planned bus rapid transit line, but they want to be included in the next phase.

The bus line, dubbed the Amp, is set to run from East Nashville to West End.

Citing the most recent census data, critics argue the route leaves outs North Nashville’s predominantly low-income, black population.

State Representative Brenda Gilmore wants guarantees from Mayor Karl Dean to ensure her part of town is eventually tied into the BRT system. 

“We don’t want to be considered as obstructionists. We want to see BRT succeed. However, we just don’t want to see North Nashville left out of this- this project.”

Rep. Gilmore spoke at on conference on the steps of the Metro Courthouse regarding the BRT Tuesday.

Mayor Dean has said he would like BRT to expand toward North Nashville, and expects a small line down Charlotte Avenue could be in the works as soon as next year.
