Community members in North Nashville gathered Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate a new mural on Jefferson Street.
The 4,000-square-foot piece is called the Legacy Mural. It was designed by artist and North Nashville native Woke3.
“It’s representing our elders, our past leaders, activists,” Woke3 said. “And it’s also representing our youth, our future, and what we want to see happen for our community.”
The mural features the likeness of prominent Black Nashvillians, like politician Thelma Harper, activist Kwame Lillard, criminal court clerk Howard Gentry and many more.
The figures are depicted in shades of blue, and the middle of the work shows a hand symbolically passing the baton to the next generation.
