It was a consolation game for the Goodlettsville Little League team on Sunday, and they lost to Panama. On Saturday, they fell by a score of 4-2 to a team from New York, who went on to win the Little League World Series.
Head coach Joey Hale, who is a Nashville firefighter, said he told his 12-year-olds not to get upset and to enjoy playing in front of nearly 30,000 fans in Williamsport, Pa.
“I’m just proud of them,” he said at the post-game press conference. “I mean, second in the United States and to go through what we just went through, yeah, there’s no sad faces here. Nothing but smiles.”
The Goodlettsville team fought back from elimination after
losing early in the tournament to the same New York team they faced again Saturday.
In 2012, Goodlettsville made it to the
final game of the Little League World Series and lost.
In four of the last five years, Middle Tennessee has fielded a team in the tournament, with the
South Nashville team playing in 2013 and 2014.
