An environmental group is criticizing three Tennessee congressmen for trying to keep the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating air standards.
The National Resources Defense Council condemned Representatives Marsha Blackburn, Phil Roe and John Duncan Thursday, for supporting a number of bills aimed at restrainging the EPA’s authority. One bill in particular which Blackburn is sponsoring says that excess carbon dioxide is not pollutant and therefore should not be subject to regulation.
Brenda Afzal of the NRDC says that by not allowing the EPA to regulate air pollution, Congress would be putting the health of millions of Americans at risk.
“Countless scientific studies have linked exposure to polluted air to a range of life threatening health problems, including aggravated asthma, chronic bronchitis, heart disease and stroke.”
Marsha Blackburn issued a response claiming that “The NRDC’s connection between greenhouse gasses and asthma is a reach at best.”
Congressman Blackburn’s bill is currently under review by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
