Tennessee is averaging more than 6,000 new coronavirus cases in the past week. And with college students heading back for the spring semester, some campuses have decided to postpone school or go virtual.
Vanderbilt and Tennessee State universities have both decided to delay the start by one week. Vanderbilt will begin in-person classes on Jan. 17. TSU will come back the following week, on Jan. 24.
Other universities are shifting to remote learning for a portion of this month.
Rhodes College in Shelby County — which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the state — will begin with virtual classes Jan. 12 and switch to in-person on Jan. 31.
Belmont University in Nashville begins remotely on Wednesday, with in-person classes returning Jan. 18.
