Opera Raises $9 million for First Headquarters

The Nashville Opera will soon break ground on it’s first-ever headquarters.

A soloist sang an aria yesterday as plans were unveiled for a 6-million dollar facility that includes a small performance space and an education center.

Nashville Opera executive director Carol Penterman says her organization has established itself as a respected opera company even without a dedicated venue.

“While we possess in abundance all of those things it takes to make a company great, what we don’t have is the material resources to build upon those strengths and elevate our standing.”

The capital campaign for the building project has a goal 12-million dollars. Half will go toward a trust called ‘The Fund for Artistic Excellence.’ Silent fundraising efforts already have raised 9-million dollars. An anonymous gift of 3-million and 2-million from the family of the late Noah Liff make up the bulk of the money raised.

The new offices and performing space will be located next to the Nashville Ballet facility in Sylvan Park. The Opera will continue to use the Tennessee Performing Arts Center for its large-scale productions.
