Over 400 people have been laid off as three companies finalize plans to shut down area manufacturing and distribution centers. The announcement came from the state department of labor yesterday.
Two hundred twenty people will lose their jobs as Plastech Engineered Products, which was purchased by another company in June, closes its Franklin plant by the end of August.
Thirty-eight people were laid off when Leggett and Platt closed their Nashville textiles plant. About seven people remain employed there to finalize the closure, which is expected to be complete by September.
GSI Commerce South also filed paperwork about the layoffs of 148 after the closure of its Portland distribution center. The company announced the closure to its employees the second week of June.
