Parts of Ashland City Still Cut Off by Water

Rescue efforts continue in Tennessee after record weekend flooding. National Guard units are airlifting meals ready to eat in rural areas still cut off by flood waters.

Blackhawk helicopters landed wherever they could – in fields, front yards and even driveways. Parts of Ashland City, northwest of Nashville, are still completely cut off by water and only accessible by boat or air. The Guard continues to airlift bottled water into the area. National Guard water shipments are also headed to Hickman County, which has been largely cut off by flood water and a damaged bridge.

Municipal drinking water systems are nearing a breaking point, including Nashville’s. The city’s 600,000 residents have been told to conserve water because one of only two treatment plants was flooded. Officials have urged people to not take showers, do laundry or even flush the toilets. So far, the conservation efforts haven’t worked. The system is still losing reserves.
