New pharmacy schools opening this fall at Belmont and Lipscomb Universities received approval to enroll students today.
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education will recognize the programs as fully accredited once they graduate their first class of pharmacists.
Both schools have already selected an inaugural fall class of 75 students. Union University in Jackson will also begin educating pharmacists this fall, with an initial class of 45.
Of the five new pharmacy programs coming online this year nationwide, three are in Tennessee. Universities are responding to market forces as hospitals and pharmacies feel the effects of retiring baby-boomers.
