A new University of Tennessee study says a Dallas-based developer’s plans for a Medical Trade Center in Nashville could mean a $390 million impact for the state.
Market Center Management Company wants to take over the current convention center in downtown Nashville and turn it into a one-stop shop for the healthcare industry. It would house permanent exhibitions and be used for trade shows – the company predicts six major shows a year.
One driver of the economic impact is from trade show attendees. The study used an average of 44,000 visitors annually when the project is complete in 2019.
The proposal is dependent on a new downtown convention center getting built. Metro council members are scheduled to vote on that in January.
