Ramsey: All-Or-None Is Not How Government Works

Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey doesn’t think Republicans could’ve asked for much more from GOP lawmakers in the session that just ended. Ramsey sees that as one defense to tea partiers looking to unseat incumbents this year.

Ramsey was a tea party favorite when he ran for governor two years ago. He says this summer primary challengers should just look at the current slate of Republicans’ most recent work. They undid collective bargaining for teachers, overhauled how the state deals with its workers…

“…Doing away with the death tax, doing away with the gift tax, tort reform, ‘loser pays,’ I could go on and on about things we’ve accomplished. I think Ronald Reagan said one time, ‘I don’t consider an 80 percent friend a 20 percent enemy.’ And there are some in the conservative movement – and in the liberal movement for that matter – that consider an 80 percent friend a 20 percent enemy. And I’m not like that, and I hope that’s where they are.”

In Ramsey’s view, one thing liberals are better at than conservatives is making change happen an inch at a time. Ramsey says some conservatives prefer an all-or-nothing approach, but he argues that’s not how government works.
