
Tennessee lawmakers are currently considering two bills that could restrict abortion rights. HB2779 is a Texas-style bill that would allow private citizens to sue anyone involved in providing an abortion.

The second bill (HB2416) would regulate medical abortions, which are more common than surgical abortions. The bill would require doctors to hand patients the medication that induces abortions instead of sending them to a pharmacy.
“It’s like you kind of have to read between the lines with what the sponsors are saying about these bills,” said WPLN Senior Health Care Reporter Blake Farmer. “Nobody’s being exactly frank about what the bill is intended to do on its face.”
