Ticket holders that were unable to get a seat on the Music City Star commuter train to Nashville on the Fourth of July will be able to get their money back.
The Regional Transportion Authority announced today it will offer a full refund to passengers left behind by the “Fireworks Express” to Riverfront Park Friday.
By the time the train left its second stop in Lebanon it was packed to capacity with about 1,200 passengers, leaving hundreds more deserted on platforms in Mt. Juliet, Donelson and Hermitage. Officials said they were caught off guard by the volume of passengers because tickets were sold through various outlets, leaving them unable to track sales in real time.
RTA director Diane Thorne says the agency is looking at ways to avoid a repeat of the glitch in Friday’s service.
“The one lesson that we learned, we’ve got to control the sale of tickets. And that probably means that we handle all the tickets sales for special events through our office, whether it’s online or through our office physically.”
Thorne said she was unable to send a second train downtown because the crew was off for the holiday.
Details about how to obtain the refund are available on the Transport Authority’s Web site.
