Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper says he plans to file legislation that would “stop congressional pay” if the U.S. defaults on its debt.
Cooper says not only would his bill keep members from collecting their salaries during a default, but it would bar them recouping any lost pay retroactively.
The statement from the Nashville Democrat’s office did not say if he had lined up any potential co-sponsors for such a bill.
