Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, was sworn in for the third time Thursday at the Capitol. He won his special election last month. It came after he was expelled for leading a protest from the House floor.
With a special session coming up, he says he is going to continue to do what got him here.
“The people of my district sent me back overwhelmingly to be a voice during the special session and the regular session to fight for common sense gun laws. That’s what we’re going to do,” said Jones. “The same thing we’ve been doing all year long is to lift up the issues the majority of Tennesseans — independents, Republicans, Democrats — support.”
The special session, which begins next week, doesn’t allow for bills dealing directly with firearms, which has upset Democrats and gun control advocates. Jones says Gov. Bill Lee has to stand up to the extremist members in his party and stand up for the majority of Tennesseans who welcome gun control.
