The Tennessee House Redistricting Committee is meeting Wednesday to release Congressional District map proposals, and the change could cost Democrats a seat.
House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, told WPLN that he’s seen the proposed congressional district maps that are planned to be released this week. The biggest change is in Davidson County, home to Nashville.
“It may be just a tad bit different than the Senate, not much. But it will have that Davidson County is split,” Sexton said.

Davidson County residents and Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper, who represents Nashville, have asked that the county not be split. Cooper says it dilutes the voice of Democrats in the county.

Currently there are seven Republicans and two Democrats representing Tennessee in the U.S. House. The proposal could flip Cooper’s seat.
