Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul opened a campaign office on Nashville’s Music Row today. Backers of the anti-war Republican say the office will help organize the volunteer effort that has marked the campaign so far.
State coordinator Cheryl Scott says that although the campaign has so far stressed street-side signs and bumper stickers, Paul’s internet fundraising success means formal advertising will be part of the message leading up to Tennessee’s February fifth primary.
“The citizens of America gave Ron Paul $20 million just this quarter, this past quarter. So there’s definitely campaign money that’s being spent now, all across America. But the grassroots piece of it will not stop.”
Scott claims that support for Paul comes mostly Republicans, some Libertarians, and as many as thirty percent disaffected Democrats.
Paul backs the elimination of the income tax and the Internal Revenue Service, supports a return to small federal government, and opposes the Iraq war based on moral issues.
