Early voting for the Aug. 4 primaries started Friday, but for one closely watched race, the results are already in.
Nashville’s Department of Transportation allowed voters to name its new mini street sweeper. “Joclean” ran a good race, but “Demonbroomin” swept the competition with 41% of the vote.
Demonbroomin, named for one of downtown’s most infamously mispronounced streets, is tasked with keeping the city’s bike lanes clear of broken glass and fallen tree limbs — something cyclists have been calling for in the past five years.
While nameless, the street sweeper made its debut in May, ahead of the annual Tour de Nash bike ride.
But one council member is skeptical of the results. Freddie O’Connell, who represents District 19, has been a vocal critic of the election since his suggestion of “Sweepy McSweepface” did not make the short list.
I’m scheduling a press conference about this for Aug 28 at the Ryman immediately prior to the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons show. https://t.co/DEIWHQDZns
