Last night, the Metro School Board voted to suspend its search for an interim schools director. Instead the board will keep acting director Chris Henson in that position until a permanent director is hired.
Henson also serves as the district chief financial officer.
School board members last night encouraged him to hire additional personnel to help him handle leadership of the school system.
19 people had applied to be Metro’s interim schools director.
Mayor Karl Dean has offered to raise private funds to pay for a national search for a permanent director.
According to many school officials, increasing oversight from the state because of the district’s failure to meet some federal benchmarks is all-the-more reason to name a strong director as soon as possible.
