School Officials Asked to Check Auto Tags

Rutherford County officials want schools to help them find out who’s not paying the county’s car registration fee.

Yesterday, the county commission voted to ask the Board of Education to require proof of car registration when parents enroll their students in school.

Commissioners are trying to crack down on residents who register their vehicles where there isn’t a wheel tax or emissions testing. By doing so, they avoid a $76.50 fee that Rutherford County wants to make sure it collects, especially in the current economy.
