The last missing people in Humphreys County have now been accounted for by local law enforcement. As of Wednesday afternoon, search operations have been suspended.
The final suspected victim was found by crews that have been sifting through debris since Saturday.
“Bless their hearts, those guys and gals have worked very, very hard to get in and get it done,” Waverly Police Chief Grant Gillespie said. “Today was about our victim, and we found him.”
The state has officially confirmed 19 fatalities from the flood, but local law enforcement say today’s discoveries bring the total to 20.
Gov. Bill Lee issued an executive order meant to expedite relief efforts.
Roughly 100 homes remain without power, and a boil water advisory remains in effect for the city of Waverly, where as much as 17 inches of rain fell Saturday morning.
