One of Tennessee’s U.S. Senators is calling for a national task force to look at streamlining state and federal education regulations. At issue is whether students take too many tests.
Tennessee Republican Lamar Alexander and Michael Bennett, a Democrat from Colorado, are collaborating on the effort. They’ve filed a bill to make the task force part of the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act. But Alexander says getting a bill passed could take too long, so in the interim, a working group is set up in both states, and meetings will begin soon.
“We’re saying to legislators, teachers, and principals, help us to get rid over testing, over regulating, and make sure that the tests we have are good tests and the regulations we have are reasonable regulations.”
The Governors of Tennessee and Colorado are co-chairs of the group that will be meeting with teachers and parents across each state.
