Songwriters Nominated to Hall of Fame

Margaritaville‘s Jimmy Buffett and Jimmy Weatherly, who wrote “Midnight Train To Georgia” were among the 15 people nominated for possible induction to the Nashville Songwriters Hall Fame yesterday.

Only three of the nominees—two songwriters and one songwriter/artist—will gain entrance into the Hall of Fame in October.

As a camera flashed, Tony Joe White, who wrote “Rainy Night in Georgia,” smiled and held his framed nomination. His son Jody stood by him for the honor.

“Oh you know, I’m happy for him, it’s great to see the song writers and musicians alike get the respect they deserve, you know, a lot of times their names aren’t always in the front pages, but a lot of times their the brains behind the songs and deserve a lot of the credit.”

Those inducted in October will join legends such as Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan in the 153-member Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. A complete list of the nominees is online at wpln.org/news.
