The Nashville Sounds are looking for new investors.The owners are trying to tamp down rumors that the team is up for sale.
New York-based MFP Baseball bought the Sounds for an undisclosed amount in 2008. Immediately the partners began sinking millions of dollars into repairs at Greer Stadium even while lobbying the city for a new field.
CEO Frank Ward says in a statement he has “no interest in selling the ball club,” and that he is “passionately committed to professional baseball in this region.”
However, the Sounds are entertaining offers from what is described as “a number of individuals and corporations who have expressed interest in becoming a minority shareholder.” Ward says he has made clear that a new investor would also have to share his commitment to keeping the team in town.
The Sounds have struggled at filling the stands compared to other teams in the Pacific Coast League. And per-game attendance has fallen since the new owners took over.
