The presidential primary is motivating most of the voting turnout across Middle Tennessee this election season, but some communities are making additional local decisions.
Nashville voters, for example, are thinking more than usual about the position of Metro Trustee.
The trustee is essentially the city’s tax collector, and also oversees tax relief programs.
Charlie Cardwell held the post from 1993 until his passing last year, easily winning reelection.
But this year, longtime Metro employee and former councilmember Parker Toler — who was appointed to the office last year — is being challenged by former councilmember Erica Gilmore.
The ballot in Wilson County also features a major decision, as voters will decide whether to raise the sales tax by half of a percent. The funds would go to pay raises for public school teachers.
