Nearly half of Tennessee’s public companies have no women on their boards. But a periodic survey released today shows the state now has at least one female CEO.
It’s the state’s first woman chief executive since a business group called CABLE began the survey in 2003. Regal Entertainment based in Knoxville is now led by CEO Amy Miles.
Laura Williams of Lipscomb University compiled the report from the most current SEC filings.
“We’re very excited about having a woman representing in the officer position. But Tennessee is last or next to last in director numbers.”
Women hold fewer than one in 10 positions on corporate boards here – 8.3 percent. By comparison, nearly 18 percent of board seats are filled by women in New York. Other southern states, including Georgia and Florida, have female representation on corporate boards similar to Tennessee.
