State health officials say the one confirmed case and the eight other probable cases of the swine flu in Tennessee are mild.
Tests from the CDC confirmed the virus in a Williamson county student who attends Harding Academy. That school remains closed this week, as does Montgomery Bell, where another student also likely has the virus.
The mild cases, however, don’t mean everyone is out of the woods. Epidemiologist Tim Jones:
“People that are medically fragile who have symptoms, they need to call their providers early to talk to them about getting on medications. But your average citizen who’s out there and healthy, absolutely not.”
Tennessee expects to be testing the virus samples at state labs by the end of this week instead of sending them off to the CDC.
