Travelers driving through Tennessee this Memorial Day weekend will save 7 cents on gas compared to the national average.
Meal and lodging costs are also lower than the national average, putting Tennessee in the top ten least expensive travel destinations for 2006, according to AAA.
AAA Spokesman Gregg Laskoski says Tennessee has an edge over other states.
“We’ve always had in Tennessee the affordability, you know, certainly in comparison to some other destinations, that’s a great thing to have right now, and to be able to communicate both regionally and nationally, that you can have a fantastic vacation in Tennessee and you’re not going to pay an arm and a leg.”
AAA estimates that nearly 555,000 state residents will travel in their cars this holiday weekend.
The state Department of Transportation will halt all road construction projects this afternoon in anticipation of the traffic.
