Tennessee’s top lawyer says there’s no reason the governor, legislators and several staff members need to show up in Chattanooga next week. Attorney General Bob Cooper has moved to block subpoenas issued as part of a hearing into the failed union vote at Volkswagen.
The filings with the National Labor Relations Board suggest the subpoenas to appear are only meant to “harass” officials and “disrupt state operations.”
Attorney General Bob Cooper also has filed to postpone the hearings, which were scheduled to start Monday morning in Chattanooga.
The United Auto Workers wants Governor Bill Haslam, his Economic Development Commissioner and several lawmakers to testify. The UAW is trying to prove there was a coordinated effort to undermine unionization.
