Twenty-seven year old Jeremy White is one of 74 athletes from Tennessee competing in the first ever National Games of the Special Olympics in Iowa this week. White, who has Down’s syndrome, has competed in Tennessee’s Special Olympics since he was nine. He started off swimming, which led to basketball, and now, his favorite sport – golf.
Before leaving for Iowa last week, White and his mother, Sherry, talked about golf and what it means for him to be one of just three-thousand athletes who will compete at the national games.
Jeremy: “It’s my favorite sport in the whole wide world to me because I want to be like Jack Nicklaus!”
Sherry: “It’s real exciting for me because he’s got all these little hopes and dreams and wishes that he gets to accomplish without having to tag along with his mom or his dad.”
