All but one of Tennessee’s House delegation voted Thursday to block the National Labor Relations Board from ordering businesses to close, relocate or transfer jobs to other sites.
The bill is a GOP reaction to a lawsuit the NRLB filed against Boeing this year, which claims the company retaliated against a unionized plant by opening a new facility in a right-to-work state.
The overall tally fell largely along party lines, as did much of the Tennessee vote: Republicans for, Democrats against. But Nashville Congressman Jim Cooper was one of only eight Democrats who crossed party lines to vote for the measure. The state’s other Democrat, Steve Cohen, was the only Tennessee Representative to vote against the bill.
