Tennessee Guardsmen continue to return home early from Iraq. Units from Ashland City and Sweetwater arrive Friday afternoon to the guard training center in Smyrna.
Nearly a thousand members of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment have come back from Iraq since mid-June. They’re cutting short their deployment by nearly six months in order to meet targets for reduced troop levels in Iraq. In total, some 3,400 Tennessee Guardsmen are scheduled back by the end of August.
A spokesman for the National Guard bureau says the 278th is one of the first units to come home early from Iraq as part of the drawdown.
