A young state lawmaker from Tennessee played a prominent role on the final day of the Democratic National Convention, appearing on the main stage in Philadelphia as part of an effort to reach millennial voters.
At 32, state Rep. Raumesh Akbari is one of the youngest members of the Tennessee legislature. The Memphis lawmaker used her three minutes at the podium to speak to her peers about Hillary Clinton’s history of activism, dating back to the late 1960s.
“Come on, y’all, she’s a bad sister,” Akbari said to cheers, adding “The stakes are too high, the consequences are too severe” for voters to elect Donald Trump in November.
Akbari said he and the Republican Party are trying to sow division and intolerance. She urged GOP and independent voters to consider supporting the Democratic nominee in November.
