An interfaith group that promotes relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims is donating just over $22,000 to the families of the victims in last month’s shooting in Chattanooga.
The Faith & Culture Center presented the money Monday afternoon to the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga. The brief ceremony took place in the Civil Rights Room of the Nashville Public Library’s downtown branch.
Hasina Mohyuddinsays the gesture shows that Muslims nationwide condemn the violence.
“All of these major U.S. organizations constantly condemn these acts of hatred and extremism, but often they’re just not shown on TV or in media,” she said. “So I think, beyond just condemning, to do something good and positive … shows a different side.”
The campaign drew contributions from 240 individuals. The money will go into a scholarship fund for the seven children of the servicemen killed in Chattanooga.
