The University of Tennessee has filled the position of athletic director. Monday night, UT named Dave Hart to the post overseeing athletic programs. He comes to Tennessee from his own alma mater and UT rival – the University of Alabama. At a news conference Hart said he is – however – “absolutely and totally committed to the University of Tennessee.”
Former athletic director Mike Hamilton resigned in June in the wake of a lengthy NCAA investigation into the school’s basketball and football teams. Hart says the scandal has created some rifts among fans and donors.
“They all love Tennessee, so I think that’s one of the first priorities, is to reach out to everybody who has meant so much to the university.”
Hart will be working under a cloud at first. Tennessee’s football and basketball programs have just begun a two-year probationary period.
