Republican incumbent Andy Ogles has secured a second term in Congress after facing a challenge from a Nashville activist.
The former Maury County mayor was the first Republican to win the 5th Congressional seat after the statehouse split Nashville’s Democratic stronghold into three separate districts. Ogles ran on support for Israel, curbing illegal immigration and school choice. He has opposed electric vehicle charging stations, abortion access, and gay marriage.
Ogle’s Democratic challenger, Maryam Abolfazli, ran on abortion access and gun safety, after the shooting at the Covenant School last year.
Ogles has faced scrutiny from a federal watchdog agency for discrepancies in his campaign finance disclosures, which remain unresolved. The FBI confiscated his phone in August as part of an ongoing investigation into his campaign finances.
