State health officials say, for now, they will not change their policy on schools affected by the swine flu. The Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation on how long schools should be closed is being re-evaluated.
Four schools in Tennessee are closed because of the H1N1 virus, including Harding Academy where the virus has been confirmed, and Montgomery Bell, where it is suspected.
State health officials say schools which have students with a probable or confirmed case of the swine flu should stay closed for seven days.
Tennessee Epidemiologist Tim Jones:
“Everything we’re doing is certainly to err on the side of safety and I think that we’re still inside that seven day window, we’re not pushed to make any changes.”
There are eight probable cases of the H1N1 virus in Tennessee, all of them mild.
