Guns could soon be allowed inside the Tennessee Capitol.
The state Senate voted this morning to add the statehouse to a measure, House Bill 995, that would allow guns in all parks in Tennessee.
Sen. Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville) suggested the amendment to bring attention to what he says is the “hypocrisy” of allowing guns around children, yet not lawmakers.
“If we’re going to pass a law that requires local governments to have guns in their parks, then we should apply the same standard to ourselves.”
Republicans called his bluff and approved the amendment.
House legislators would also have to agree to allow in guns. The measure would then go to Gov
. Bill Haslam
for consideration.
The governor is already on record as opposing the guns-in-parks bill.
