Polls are open until 7 pm.

Tennessee voters have been streaming to the polls on Super Tuesday. For some Republicans, picking a presidential candidate has been a last second decision.

The most recent polling shows the GOP primary in Tennessee to be tightening, and what was once a two-man race has even been upended with Newt Gingrich making a small surge.

Gingrich got the last word in with Bill Goins, an electrical engineer from Smyrna.

“I just made my choice today, and last week would have possibly been somebody else. Newt had an interview on the radio this morning. There’s a few things he said that went my way – lower the gas prices, create jobs, reduce government.”

And while Rick Santorum has consistently been on top in Tennessee polls, Mitt Romney has chipped away at that lead.

No matter the winner, candidates will divide up the state’s 58 delegates, the third most up for grabs on this Super Tuesday.

Religion Driving Santorum Support to the Polls

Religion is the headline for many who are casting a ballot for Santorum. Dave Wear and his wife voted in Rutherford County.

“He’s the only forthright Christian candidates, and we’re Christians. Not that there aren’t other good people, but they’re not traditional Christians. They’re more of the modern, liberal Christians.”

Wear says Romney would make a good president, but Santorum got his vote.

Ron Paul has not done much campaigning in the state, but interviews outside Nashville-area polling places indicate his supporters are making it out, even if in protest.
