Election Day in Tennessee asks voters to make decisions for some of the most high-profile statewide seats. This year’s ballot features the governor’s race, seats in redrawn congressional districts, multiple proposed constitutional amendments and numerous posts to be filled in the state legislature.
The top race on the ballot is for governor: Republican incumbent Bill Lee faces Jason Martin, a Democratic doctor.
Tennesseans are also voting on the state’s nine seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. One big question is whether Republican Andy Ogles will win the 5th Congressional District, which has been held by Nashville Democrat Jim Cooper. Ogles faces state Sen. Heidi Campbell, D-Nashville.
There are also four proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot. Those include a proposal to eliminate slavery as a punishment for crimes and an effort to put the state’s “right to work” laws into the state constitution.
