Tennessee’s U.S. House members voted along party lines yesterday on the bill known as “PayGo.”
The measure attempts to force every federal dollar spent be accounted for by either incoming revenue or by a budget cut.
Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper has long been the most vocal advocate for the issue. He along with Tennessee’s four other democrats, Bart Gordon, John Tanner, Steve Cohen, and John Tanner, voted for the measure.
Brentwood Republican Marsha Blackburn along with Phil Roe, Zach Wamp and John Duncan, all Republicans voted against the measure.
The bill passed 265-166, but is expected to run into resistance in the U.S. Senate.
